If the name Sabra Ricci rings a bell it may be because you’ve either seen her on television or you may have read our previous interview with this savvy celebrity chef.

Sabra’s on-point intuition coupled with her “out of this world” cooking has allowed her to write two books, Lobster for Leos, Cookies for Capricorn and Sexy Star Sign Cooking: A Cookbook for Lovers. Not only do these books tell you more about yourself, but also your honey and your money!

We absolutely love learning about all of the fabulous endeavors Chef Sabra Ricci has going on. She’s the perfect example of someone who follows her gut. This fearless and inspirational woman is about to wow us once again. You’ll see why!

IH: Tell us the names of all of your books so far and what inspired you to write Sexy Star Cooking?

Sabra Ricci: Lobster for Leos, Cookies for Capricorn: An Astrology Lover’s Cookbook and Sexy Star Sign Cooking: A Cookbook for Lovers.

I was inspired to write Sexy Star Sign Cooking by my 15 years of experience as an astrological consultant. What does everyone want to know about? Their honey and their money. I wanted to share romantic concoctions to get people in the mood for love.

IH: Give us some insight into this book, what’s it all about.

Sabra Ricci: Sexy Star Sign Cooking: A Cookbook for Lovers, is geared toward romancing each sign of the zodiac through food. I also discuss what signs get on best and entertaining ideas to woo that special someone. The recipes were created for the home cook, with ingredients readily available at your local market, but will impress the pants off your sweetie. Fun, entertaining and a must have for your cookbook collection.

IH: What can we expect to learn about ourselves after we read Sexy Star Cooking?

Sabra Ricci: You will learn what signs are the best match for you, what foods to prepare to romance those signs, and your own personal love style and characteristics.

IH: Tell us about some of people wrote the testimonials on the back of your book.

Sabra Ricci: Jenny McCarthy is the first that comes to mind. What most people might not know about Jenny is how smart she is. We all see the funny girl on camera, but she is one of the sharpest women I know. She is also sweet and kind, treats everyone the same. It doesn’t matter whether your the doorman or the CEO, she is the same. Great mother, sister and friend! I just love her! They are all great! I love them all and am so lucky to have the best clients in the world!

IH: What else do you have in the works?

Sabra Ricci: “Sabra Ricci Chocolate Bars by the Sign”, coming to a store near you.

IH: Can we get one on one sessions with you? If not now, any plans for that in the future?

Sabra Ricci: Yes, I do sixty and ninety minute, one on one astrological consultations. These can be done via Skype or phone, anywhere in the world. I accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express or PayPal. Please go to and go to the contact page to request a consultation.

IH: If we wanted to write a book, what steps would you recommend we take (you can also name people you recommend if you’d like for publishing and creating a book).

Sabra Ricci: I would suggest going to a Writers Conference in your area and listen to speakers, meet other authors, and pitch your idea. They usually have some of the top agents, editors, publishers, etc. You’ll get invaluable feedback. That was the approach I took in 2006 at the Maui Writers Conference. I got really lucky and got signed by an agent. I had already contributed to a book and had been contributing to several online publications on the subject matter, so that helped get my foot in the door. I would also like to add that it took almost five more years after signing with an agent to get a book deal. Things have changed so much in the publishing world since I first got signed. More and more writers are looking to self publish. My biggest piece of advice is to never ever give up.

IH: You basically started off as a chef and have always loved astrology, you took the two and have created magic! Give us some advice on how we can take what we are good at + our our talents and make magic too?

Sabra Ricci: My biggest piece of advise is to get a very clear vision of yourself, your talents, what you feel passionate about and what you value the most. Start there. When I went to culinary school back in the early 90’s, women were the minority in the culinary world. It was militant, very strict and a male dominated field. It was before the days of the celebrity chef or Food Network. I was a vegetarian and got so much flack for not eating meat, especially from my male counterparts. I didn’t complain and went through butchery and all required courses for me to graduate. I knew going into school that I wasn’t there to become an Executive Chef at a hotel or to have my own restaurant as many classmates were. I knew that I would have to carve out my own niche based on my own values, but I also knew that I would need the classical education and foundation to do what I wanted. So I worked in top notch restaurants in San Francisco and Napa Valley to get my training. After taking a job in Hawaii things started to unfold. I found other like minded individuals where special dietary needs (vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, wheat-free, dairy-free, all of which weren’t mainstream as they are today) and healthy lifestyle were a way of life. It also afforded me the opportunity to work closely with my clients and incorporate my love of astrology. It didn’t happen overnight, and I wasn’t always sure exactly how it would play out. I just knew that if I did my part, the rest would take care of itself, and it did! Don’t ever give up on your dreams, no matter what anyone else says. If you wake up every morning and can’t wait to jump out of bed to do the work you do, you know you are on to something.
